Burmese Wedding Blessing

Sky begins clear after full moon of October. Lovers heartfelt welcome the season of November through February.

With much excitement, thinking of their marry plan will come true since they planned and waited during Buddhist Lent. Parents do things the good old way. A clever astrologer suggests quiet a numbers of things.

Traditionally, Burmese wedding practices a touch of natural concepts. On the wedding ceremony, the venerable gentleman, an old family friend, who is acting as the master of ceremony, instructs to the bride to open right side of palm. Next instruction to the bridegroom to put her right side of palm over the bride’s palm. The gentle man ties a both palms with a white cloth.

Then he blows a conch shell dedication of bringing auspicious fortune to the bride and bridegroom. Wishes for that their married life may not separate like the nature of water which cannot be split by any causes.

Moreover, the meaning of husband palms opens to hold the wife’s palm represents about husband is responsible for the happiness of married life, and be loyal. Wife’s palm covers on the palm of husband represents for that wife is responsible for making home warm, and care for family. More importantly, there is no secret between husband and wife, be trustful each other.

The old gentle man then gives a short talk on the duties of married couple. The married couple pay respect to both side of parents who born to them on this faithful earth and let them a soul-mate for their entire life.

We, Burmese people truly love our traditional old way. Parents are delighted to encourage keeping our traditional & social custom which handed generations to generations.
